




Varuna National Writers’ House is committed to developing Australia’s living literary culture and works within the broader community to deliver and promote a range of strategic initiatives.
Since 1989 Varuna, the National Writers’ House has inspired the creation of Australian writing and provided support for a thriving writing community and a growing group of Alumni.
The Varuna Residential Program supports intensive work, conversation and community for writers at all levels of experience and across a wide range of writing practice.
Varuna was set up as a writer’s centre and retreat under the auspices of the Eleanor Dark Foundation. The program runs continuously throughout the year accommodating up to 5 writers in residence.
Varuna has taken steps to improve lighting efficiency, reducing waste through recycling and composting and rainwater harvesting.
