Thanks to ecoBiz, a Queensland government energy savings program, we have been sponsored to run a pilot of the Low Carbon Living program in Far North Queensland, covering Cairns, Port Douglas and the Daintree.
The 12 month pilot officially began in July 2019. Since then, we have been working with ecoBiz coach Fiona Sleight to invite high-achieving low-carbon champions into the pilot program.
The aim to is create a low carbon community of excellence, highlighting and encouraging the exceptional efforts of businesses up here to maintain green, low-carbon and even closed-loop operations.
Why Far North Queensland?
The Far North Queensland region is home to two protected, World Heritage listed natural wonders – the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. Similar to our first low-carbon laboratory in the Blue Mountains of NSW, tourism is the predominant industry in Far North Queensland. The majority of tourism businesses in FNQ are concerned about conserving the natural environment and go to great lengths to run sustainable operations.
We can’t wait to share stories of the innovations and outstanding efforts being made by business operators in the Far North Queensland region.
We will be posting relevant updates on our Far North Queensland pilot (as well as our thriving hub in the Blue Mountains) via social media and our new Facebook groups. Please feel free to join any of these groups as they are intended to double as networking and e-learning channels for our members as well as anyone interested in reducing their carbon footprint.
